Interior Design is Easier with a Mood Board

Using Your Space Wisely

How you choose to furnish your home is decided as much by your personal choice and style, as it is by the limitations and dimensions of the space that you have. In a large loft-like space where it is mostly open plan, the arrangement of furniture will be different to that of a more traditional flat.

In a loft space if you were to put all the furniture against the wall, the space would look barren and cold. Rather you would place the furniture in and around the room, creating smaller spaces as you go: a cluster of couches and arm chairs to construct a lounge space for example, with a lovely thick rug to keep the feet warm. In a smaller space, however, fitted furniture, that is furniture that is fitted to the walls of the space, can be a real life and space saver. Most apartments and houses these days don't have that much space, you are very lucky if you can find a house or apartment that has very large rooms.

But there is nothing wrong with smaller rooms. It is just a question of how you use the space. (more...)

Best and Worst Driving Experiences

If you think of your best and worst driving experiences what do you come up with? Driving in the city is never great because of all the traffic, both human and vehicular. It is just too congested to really drive how you would like to. Driving in the city, in any case is more about getting from point A to point B.

But what about driving around with friends? This always makes a substantial difference to any journey. If you have good company in the car with you, and there is good music playing on the radio then even traffic can't really get you down too much.

But what about driving long distances? This is tricky because it really depends on the reason for the journey. (more...)

The Benefits of Cellar Conversions

Growing families regularly suffer from a lack of space at home. Unfortunately for some, the opportunity to move to a bigger location just isn’t feasible, for a number of reasons, such as financial, career or family obligations and obstacles. So the ideal way to provide more space, if you’re lucky to have a cellar that is, is through cellar conversions.

Planning permission may prevent homeowners from building upwards on their current home, or from adding extensions or conservatories to increase the amount of space available to them, but cellar conversions can provide the perfect solution to all of your spacial restrictions without having to add to the current property.

The conversion could then be used for one of a number of purposes, from an additional bedroom to a living space for the parents to get away from the children for a while. (more...)

Comparing an Air Tool with an Electric Tool

Pneumatic tools or air tools as they are commonly called are better to use than electric power tools. There are many different types of air tools. Some of the most common air tools include: lubricators, air sanders, air saws, air nail guns, pneumatic drills, air paint sprayers, pneumatic ratchets, air grinders, pneumatic wrenches and tire inflators. This clearly shows that it just might be possible to find an air tool for just about any job.

There are a number of advantages of using air tools instead of electric tools. Some of these advantages are as follows. Air tools last longer. They are more durable than electrical power tools. Air tools offer more power and torque. They are easy to use. In order to use an air tool, you need to have a compressor into which the hose of the air tool will be plugged.

It is not possible to use more than one air tools simultaneously with the same air compressor. You will need to use a separate air compressor to provide power to each individual air tool. When purchasing an air tool hose, you should make sure that it is made for the compressor’s connection; otherwise, it will not be possible to plug the hose of the air tool into the compressor. Make sure that there is a seal between the compressor and the air tool hose to prevent air from leaking thus resulting in a loss of power. PSI which stands for pressure per square inch is also very important when using air tools. The PSI on the compressor needs to be the same as that on the air tool. (more...)

The Benefits of a Luxury furniture and flooring

Aaaaah, furniture. It’s intriguing, isn’t it? On one part, there’s nothing out there that is more tedious. No self respecting human being should find laminates exciting. And yet, whenever you find yourself in a store (having been talked into it by your mum/dad/significant other), it’s kind of hard to not thrust your way into the wood v laminate debate. Well, now the debate is a three way, with more and more people choosing to go for a Real wood furniture . Why would they do such a thing? Well, keep reading and we’ll tell you.

Firstly, it can take far more of a pounding than any other type of furniture out there. This was initially what made it so popular in kitchens, with all those muddy, study shoes traipsing in and out all day and showing as much respect for their foundations as the late Christopher Hitchens showed for his local vicar. furniture can be pounded and still teach Lance Armstrong a lesson in endurance. If your family are a little bit on the ‘rough’ side, then there is no better choice.

Secondly, there is literally no better furniture to keep clean. If you’re like the writer of this piece and take advantage of that gap between picking your food up and putting it in your mouth by spraying it on the ceiling, spilling it on the floor and generally treating it like Hannibal Lector treats a policeman’s epidermis, then you will love just how practical a good vinyl floor can be. With it’s wipe clean surface, it’s virtually impossible to stain, meaning that you can break out the red wine or curry without having to worry about investing in industrial sized containers of Cillet Bang. Save money by purchasing roller blinds for your home

Roller blinds or shades are seen more in homes today because they save you money than conventional blinds. Once you buy roller blinds for your home, it will be a long time before they will have to be replaced. Roller blinds don't tear easily even if you are raising them up and down daily. With vinyl blinds, they can break and have to replaced often.

When roller blinds are placed to the windows, you can raise them up to let in the sun or light from the outside. There is no need to turn on additional lighting in your home during the daytime. Also, you can turn the heat down because the sun will fully shine in the room since once you raise the shades up, you are completely exposed to the sunlight.

With the raamdecoratie you can close them and no one can see in or out. In fact, at night, you can place a curtain over the blinds and from the outside it will look as if no light is on in your home. There are no holes to see in and out of like vinyl blinds. (more...)

Financing a Home Make Over

In these difficult economic days when unemployment is high and house prices have plummeted it can be difficult to find the money for a house make-over. It can be a sensible option though, to improve your own home, especially if adding to the accomodation, rather than having to move house with all the hassle that entails and the loss of money from solicitors' and agents' fees, stamp duty, and so on.

Many people unfortunately may have little or no equity in their home, but those of us who were wise enough, or lucky enough, to buy a house a while back when prices were on the rise, may be in a more favourable position. If you have a house that's worth considerably more than you paid for it and your mortgage was not too high, then you may well be able to get a loan against the equity.

A home equity loan is in fact a second mortgage, a loan set against the collateral of your house. You borrow a lump sum and then pay it back over a fixed period at a designated rate of interest. The money can be used as you wish, but if you reinvest it in your property and thereby increase its value then you have a more valuable asset in the long term whilst reaping the benefit of a larger or more luxurious home in the meantime. Furniture by Arne Jacobsen

Danish furniture has a reputation for modern, clean design that is both functional and yet aesthetic at the same time. Arne Jacobsen was a Danish architect who originally wanted to be an artist but was persuaded by his father to put his efforts into something more practical. Jacobsen was always interested in aesthetics though, and in the 1950s turned his attention to designing furniture, including a commission for the Royal hotel in Copenhagen.

The Jacobsen Swan Chair is one of the basic designs that is remarkable because it looks modern, and in no way dated, even today. It was extremely innovative in the 1950s, eschewing any straight lines and instead using only curves - a type of design that today we might call organic, as if having more in common with nature than with man-made objects. At that time there were no computer design programs to help with this kind of exercise. The design came purely from a creative mind

The chair has been manufactured ever since its inception by Fritz Hansen, and utilises a one-piece moulded shell of a type of plastic or glass fibre on a star-shaped base of aluminium that is able to swivel. The moulded chair is covered with foam and then a fabric or leather which can be of various types and colours. The chair is futuristic even now and wouldn't look out of place on a sci-fi film set, yet is surprisingly comfortable and relatively easy and inexpensive to make. (more...)

Interior Design is Easier with a Mood Board

Anybody who has spent half a day painting a wall in their home, only to stand back and think to themselves, "Oh dear, I'm not sure I really like that colour after all", will immediately see the advantage of a "mood board" that allows you to familiarise yourself with different colours and combinations before committing to actually setting to work. Taking time to construct a mood board can mean considerable savings in time, energy, and money when it comes to decorating your home.

Interior design mood boards are recommended by professional interior designers and used by them all the time.

A mood board consists of things you know you like, such as pictures, colours, items you may have seen in the shops like carpet samples, or even just notes about general themes such as cars or the countryside. It is a bit like a scrapbook of your favourite things. (more...)
